Jotle - Joy of Thoughtful Lists and Entries is a minimalist note-taking application created with care by Ritul Singh. This document combines our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service so you can easily understand how your data is handled and what to expect when using Jotle.

2.3 Data Storage
- Local Storage: Your notes are primarily stored locally on your device using secure local storage (Hive database). This ensures your data remains private and accessible even when offline.
- Cloud Storage: When you create an account and enable sync, your notes are backed up to Firebase Cloud Firestore. This allows you to access your notes across multiple devices.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the collected information for the following purposes:
- Service Provision: To provide, maintain, and improve our note-taking services.
- Account Management: To create and manage your user account, authenticate you, and provide customer support.
- Cloud Synchronization: To sync your notes across your devices when you enable this feature.

We do NOT sell, rent, or trade your personal information or note content to third parties.

- Service Providers: We use Firebase (Google) services for authentication, cloud storage, analytics, and crash reporting. These services are bound by their own privacy policies.

- You can delete your entire account and all associated data through the Settings screen.
- Account deletion will permanently remove all your data from our servers within 30 days.
6.3 Data Portability
- You can export your notes and data in JSON format at any time.
- Exported data includes all notes, categories, labels, and metadata.
6.4 Opt-Out Options
- You can disable push notifications in your device settings.
- Analytics collection is handled through Firebase and may be subject to your device's privacy settings.
7. Children's Privacy
Jotle is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete such information from our servers.
8. Data Retention
- Active Accounts: We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services.
- Deleted Accounts: When you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal purposes.
- Local Data: Data stored locally on your device remains on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app.
9. International Data Transfers
Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence. These countries may have data protection laws that differ from those in your country. By using Jotle, you consent to the transfer of your information to these countries, including the United States where Firebase servers are located.
10. Terms of Service
10.1 Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using Jotle, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the application.
10.2 Description of Service
Jotle is a note-taking application that allows users to:
- Create, edit, and organize notes
- Categorize notes with categories and labels
- Mark notes as favorites or archive them
- Search through notes
- Sync notes across devices (when account is created)
- Export notes and data
10.3 User Accounts
- You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.
- You are responsible for all activities that occur under your account.
- You must provide accurate and complete information when creating an account.
- You must be at least 13 years old to use this service.
10.4 Acceptable Use
You agree NOT to:
- Use the service for any illegal or unauthorized purpose.
- Violate any laws in your jurisdiction.
- Transmit any malicious code, viruses, or harmful content.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the service or other users' accounts.

- We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the service at any time with or without notice.
- We are not liable for any loss of data or service interruptions.
10.7 Data Backup
- While we provide cloud sync functionality, you are responsible for maintaining your own backups.
- We recommend regularly exporting your data using the built-in export feature.
- We are not responsible for data loss due to device failure, accidental deletion, or service interruptions.
10.8 Account Termination
- You may delete your account at any time through the Settings screen.
- Account deletion will permanently remove all your data from our servers.
- We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms of Service.
10.9 Limitation of Liability
- Jotle is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied.
- We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages.
- Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for the service (if any).
10.10 Intellectual Property
- The Jotle app, including its design, code, and branding, is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.
- You may not copy, modify, or distribute the app without permission.
- The app is licensed under the MIT License for open-source components.
